Public Library Nutrition Support Implementation

We partner with public libraries throughout South Carolina to implement policy, systems, and environmental change nutrition support strategies with the goal of decreasing food insecurity and increasing access to healthy foods among patrons/customers. We provide continuous support and guidance on selecting, implementing, evaluating, and sustaining nutrition support strategies.

Example strategies include:

      • Establishing a produce garden
      • Hosting an onsite farmers market
      • Starting a food pantry focused on wellness and nutrition
      • Creating a produce seed library
      • Expanding or improving transportation options for patrons/customers to get to and from the library
      • Supporting breastfeeding through space, policies, and practices

“When I was told I could purchase 12 pounds of produce for $10 at the library, I did not believe it! I am glad to be able to shop in walking distance from my home and receive a large amount of produce with my SNAP benefits. This stretches more for me and my family than the same amount at the grocery store.”
