Nutrition Supports in Health Care
The UofSC SNAP-Ed team partners with health care settings throughout South Carolina to implement policy, systems, and environmental change nutrition support strategies with the goal of decreasing food insecurity and increasing access to healthy foods among patients. We provide continuous support and guidance on selecting, implementing, evaluating, and sustaining nutrition support strategies.
Example strategies include:

- Screening patients for food insecurity and referring to community or onsite resources for nutrition
- Developing produce prescription programs
- Establishing a produce garden
- Hosting an onsite farmers market
- Starting a food pantry focused on wellness and nutrition
- Expanding or improving transportation options for patients to get to and from the health care site
- Supporting breastfeeding through space, policies, and practices
